Inboards at Lakeland, Florida

This is a side of limited inboard racing that I am totally unfamiliar with...blogging ! However, I want to try and share some boat racing experiences (past, present, and future) with anyone interested in the sport.
On March 1st, my wife Ellen and I drove to Lakeland (about a 3 hour hike) to meet my eldest son, Kevin, and his daughter (my granddaughter) Victoria, at Lake Hollingsworth. This was the site of the 71st Orange Cup Regatta, and although predominantly an outboard event, 4 classes of inboards were invited. However, only the Jersey Speed Skiff and 5 Liter Hydro classes showed up. That was too bad, since the facilities, weather, and course were very good and the fans were lining the shore.
Of the 5 JSS that raced, 3 of them were familiar to me from my racing days; 2 driving down from Pennsylvania. 3 of the 4 hydros (5Liter) had travelled over from Louisiana for this early season race. The competition was good and I always get that tingle when I hear the engines start up and the unique sound that a skiff makes when coming down a straightaway !
I have to admit, there was some very good outboard racing going on too !
I invite any and all comments to my blog, so I may make it better in the future and also when I learn how to attach pix, I'll post those too. Thanks !

Elam - Detroit 2007

Not the best photo. I panned into the sun (unintentionally) and captured the image a little overexposed, but I like the way it turned out.
